Love & Hate
#1
I have a love, hate relationship with the Nordschleife.
I love it as it's such a different track to all the other ones we race.  Not just going round and round.  But I have issues racing on it.
I find it tricky to drive, but that's my problem, but also other people find it tricky to drive and don't make allowances for that.  I don't know whether to race people behind me as they often decide to try passing in stupid places, where it's tight and there is no space really, which lets face it is most of the track.  Or I let them past and they then make a mistake, but due to the tight confines of the track you get collected or can't get round them or they hit you while trying to sort them selves out.
Yesterday in the top server there were a total of 130 ( one hundred and thirty ) incidents, that's for 21 drivers.  That was the lowest for any of the four servers with the total for all four servers at 757 incidents, with one driver, in server 4, managing 70 incidents Confused   In fact out of the 76 drivers 27 of them would have been better off not racing, as they ended up with negative point scores.
The other issue I have is the cut off time at the end of the race.  You have 4-5 minutes after the leader passes the line to finish your last lap.  Normally this is fine on tracks the have lap times of 2-3 minutes, but when a lap round the Nordschleife can take 10 minutes that is a problem.  If you don't finish your lap you get a count back to the previous lap.  So yesterday I lost 2 positions, as one racer left the server having just passed the line and I passed one having run out of fuel.  I wasn't far behind, just coming under the bridge on the back straight, when the server stopped.
I don't know what you do about the incidents, as I certainly wouldn't want to stop using the Nordschleife, but can we please have a longer cut off for these longer tracks.

Is the cutoff the same for qualifying too? It would mean that for a 20 minute qualifying, there's no time to do 2 hot laps if one lap takes around 9 minutes, because you can't finish your third lap on time.

nordschleife and le mans have really no overtime in qualy, you might get a few seconds at most but thats it.
so at nord you get 1 hotlap and that is it.
as for the cutoff after the winner crosses the line, either admin extends the time allowed or well ..... drive faster? i guess those are the two options... i can certainly sympathize with losing position due to the current situation but yeah it is what it is currently.

I solve this dilemma by giving up and just hating the Nordschleife. Wink

Those two guys you lost position to because of the time cut off probably dropped out on the last lap on purpose, knowing they'd be >5 mins from the leader.

You might as well do the same unless the server wait time is extended.

I still love it, but when I join a race I only do it to have a reason to drive it and not to have an actual race Big Grin

I can count the times I've actually "raced" against another driver on that track on one hand, should that one hand have been in a horrible workshop accident and lost every finger (including the thumb). Green Hell in the rotation is a wasted slot for a good race track, in my opinion. And not just because you can't adequately qualify on such a thing.

I can count the times I had an actual race there on one finger. But that one time might have been the best battle I ever had and maybe ever will have: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qkRX-crZOc&t=1924s

almost 20 minutes of pure adrenaline

The same for me Simon, most of the time after half a lap, everybody is in his own bubble but when you have race... This one lasted 7 laps in the same second or two, there was a third guy who died at some point

In general it would be better with tigher fields, more people of the same level, but it's a bit like that in real never too much battling, it's more a track about pace and consistency.

I think the system shouldn't count spin-offs/track leaves without actual collision, its just straight up dumb. Scored 40 incidents when actually involved in 3,  just because im bad at the track. So, personally, no Nordschleife for me any more.
