It's always cool to see someone bump around in Mudbox to see what others have come up with for solutions to common problems.

For instance... I typically select all of the faces that represent the paintable car body, hide them, and then go through the list of non-hidden objects in the geometry category and delete them from the list. Inverting selection like you do and then deleting will save me probably 5 minutes per car for setup! I'd recommend deleting the faces you will never paint, however. Normally being destructive like this is a Bad Thing™ but given you always can get the fbx of the original model at any time, it isn't a problem here. This also lets you delete unused shaders which lowers the file size and cuts down on load and save times.

I'm also curious why you did most all the logo work in GIMP instead of just creating a stencil and painting logos directly on the 3D model. If the UV mapping has any curvature at all, you are going to have to really futz with it in your 2D app to make it look right on the car itself. And, with X mirroring, you get placement for free (you just have to remember to turn it off and paint it a second time when you have everything where want it).
Good stuff! Thanks for sharing!

I recently found a really cool trick in Mudbox that you will likely find really useful. The next car I paint I'll stream the process. Here's a hint: if you create a plane somewhere in the Mudbox scene and assign the same shader as the rest of the body, you can paint in both 3D and 2D in the same application! I put my Krytek pattern on much of the Glickenhaus in my latest skin BEFORE I learned this trick... and spent the majority of the painting fumbling around in Photoshop when I could have done all of that pattern work in about 5 minutes in Mudbox directly on the car.

Hrmm... I should probably finish and upload that video and start another car. Probably today. Big Grin
