The turbo must affect fuel use. It's a massive fan blowing more fuel and air into the engine.

I must have been the luckiest man alive on the Mosport race yesterday, ran out of fuel coming into turn 7 but managed to just about coast to the finish and stopped ~2m after the finish line and only lost 1 place in the process! I think the lack of fuel economy makes this race great fun, and I now know that I need to get better at fuel saving even though I thought I was saving a lot it obviously was not quite enough.
I had turbo tuned to 80% for the whole race and it definitely seemed to make a difference compared to 100% on qualifying.
