Low attendance at races with ford spec racer
#1
There is a low attendance at races with ford spec racer.
What do you think about changing this car?

It will change in 3 weeks. Every car (at least in AC) runs for 6 weeks and then the new series starts.

The car handles terribly and looks like it has an engine made out of plastic with the amount of damage it takes. Actually all three of the main 20 min racing series cars this season (Seat, Lancia and Ford) have weird and floaty handling so no wonder so few people participate. Unfortunately we have to wait 3 weeks for this season to end and hope we get better series the next one. Sad
Brakes? Is it edible?  Undecided

Despite I'm far not an average simracer, and despite I could manage my best results with Seat TCR in my "SRS Career", I can totally agree with you.

I didn't even try to participate in Ford series, because I'm unable to drive this car -which is obviously my fault mostly.
But tbh, there were a lot of interesting races with TCR, so it's not that terrible.
I practice offline sometimes with ai too for race situations, to become more familiar with these cars
Anyway, I participated in R3E events too and I'm planning the same in the next few weeks.

I tried this car and after 2 laps I gave up. I want to race and have fun and just trying to turn it in and stay on the track was just crazy and would mean a crashfest in the race. And the engine fragility - don't get me started on that. Its nice to try new cars but this one is not for me Smile
If I was better than an average racer I might enjoy it!!

As was briefly discussed in another thread about this car, it's basically a reskinned Skip Barber with some (questionable) tweaks that make it behave strangely. I gave it about 5 laps before I decided something was very wrong, and discussion on that mod's feedback thread somewhat validated my opinion.

Yep the physics are probably way off, and it is hard to drive, but last time I checked we all drove the same one so the playing field couldn’t be any more level. Anyway totally sick of cars that handle well with loads of grip so this car is the best one of the three daily series for me. If we all liked the same thing the world would be bloody boring so there is that at least Smile

See you on the track gents!

I get what you are saying, but if the car doesn't act like... you know... a car, then it's kind of hard to be attracted to the idea of retraining your years of experience driving them just for something nuanced. It actually felt like the more I knew about how cars handle, the WORSE I was doing in this thing... so maybe it wasn't so level a playing field? Big Grin

Tangentially, there's also something to be said for the actual RACING aspect of online racing and how grippy they are or not. Cars that have loads of grip allow people to actually react when someone does something boneheaded, which is often. Any car with nuance (even the ones that actually are based on actual cars in reality) are super hard to actually race others with because any deviation from the rote practice required just to get the thing around the track at pace means you and likely they are going off road and likely into walls and/or each other.

I'm certainly not saying that every series should be GT cars or Formulas and the like... but maybe less of the wacky pre-80s automobiles on pre-60s tracks. I am finding that SRS's audience doesn't quite match such lofty sim racing goals.

This season's daily races are a bit much for the regular sim racer, yes.

But as far as I remember it, the iRacing version of the Spec Racers felt pretty similar. So it can't be all off.

The engine definitely is over sensitive, yes. AFAIC those are relatively cheap race cars for regular people. Those engines should be able to handle a certain amount of abuse, I'd say.
