In fact, once you skin is uploaded, you need to reconnect to the server (and the other drivers too ideally, so they can see it too).
The server cannot assign a skin to a vehicle when said skin is not yet uploaded (that's what happens when you connect the first time).
That said, you can start uploading your skin 5 min before starts of the race, that's what i do : i start a practice session on my own 5 min before the race (when the button displays "Please wait"), the app will upload your skin on the server (if needed) and download other customs skins (if available on the server).
You can then quit your practice session and join the real race session (when the button displays "Join"). You will then already have all necessary skins (if drivers uploaded theirs). The server will already have your skin, so you will admire it in the SRS broadcast !
