SRS TV & Custom Skins
#1
Watching a SRS Race I noticed that peoples custom skins are not being displayed.
Is SRS TV using the Skin transfer app and if so can you get SRS TV to connect download the skins and then Disconnect so they are displayed in the TV feed?

Or have some way of allowing people to upload their skins to SRS TV instance?

I was watching Afonso driving with his blue long poo skin yesterday, so at least it worked there. I haven't done own skins for this series, so I don't know about me, but it worked for him.

This is only a guess, but likely your skin is not going to show up in the FIRST race you participate in since the SRS skin app requires a restart on the server for the skin to be render-able. Was this your first race using a skin, Andy? If so, see if it works next race... my guess is it probably will.

If this wasn't the first race you've uploaded your skin to, then the other guess would be that perhaps your skin went over the 10MB limit and didn't actually successfully upload?

Yeah first race in the series & skin is only 5MB, but it wasn't working for anyone in the race, maybe the same issue as it was their first race too

In fact, once you skin is uploaded, you need to reconnect to the server (and the other drivers too ideally, so they can see it too).

The server cannot assign a skin to a vehicle when said skin is not yet uploaded (that's what happens when you connect the first time).

That said, you can start uploading your skin 5 min before starts of the race, that's what i do : i start a practice session on my own 5 min before the race (when the button displays "Please wait"), the app will upload your skin on the server (if needed) and download other customs skins (if available on the server).

You can then quit your practice session and join the real race session (when the button displays "Join"). You will then already have all necessary skins (if drivers uploaded theirs). The server will already have your skin, so you will admire it in the SRS broadcast ! Wink

I've done that for my first races this season and it worked like a charm (on the opposite of my performances Tongue )

Question about this: what practice server do you join? and is it password protected?

I start a practice session locally, on my own machine. No server needed.

Sometimes this works for me and other times it does not. There must be some settings that are required to be enabled or disabled to get the SRS skin app to phone home, but I'm unclear on what they are. My typical practice sessions are Practice with the Hotlap restart point (NOT the Hotlap mode with the ghost), or a Race with AI bots. In all cases I have 0% damage so I don't have to just start a new lap if I lose it and take a bunch of aero damage.

But sometimes I get the SRS Skin app talking to me offline, and others it never does. I have to wait until joining the SRS server before it says anything at all.

For me, this is the normal behaviour of the app. It only said something when I'm in the SRS servers

Just before the most recent MX5 race I tried to specifically choose Practice mode and then specifically turned on the SRS Skin app via the right hand menu. Doing this fired up uploading and downloading a good 5 minutes before the race started without issue. So I guess that's the best way to do this?
