What are ratings for?

(very) New around here....
What are ratings for? Allow us to join races with drivers in similar ratings level?

They are an elaborate attempt to make people lose their goddam minds but really they are just a mysteriously established value assigned to people who have 1) been here a long time 2) finish relatively high in most races and 3) don't run into things they shouldn't.

In past seasons (long long ago) this value was used to prevent "less skilled drivers" from registering for particular series. But given points #1 and #2 above, even chuckleheads can register for these 300/400/700 rating required races... so they kind of fell out of favor.

What they really do?

Higher the number, the more likely you will be picked for the top splits in races with more than 23 drivers. Once people start earning championship points for a series, THAT value is weighted more heavily than your driver rating.

Oh, and once you are actually on a server, the drivers with the higher number are closer to the front of pit lane. Makes it easier to cheat during qualifying on tracks like Spa. Big Grin

That's the most important thing about the rating, in my opinion.

I have a rating of 708 (nothing special, it's really just showing that I'm part of SRS since a long time) which puts me in the top split in almost every race. Even when I join a series in the third race without being ranked in that championship yet.

That way I always race against a full field (second split might only have three racers if you're unlucky) and the amount of people who know how to behave on a race track is higher.

If I understand correctly, ratings do not open the door to other races (where only high level drivers are allowed) but allows a "better position" in a particular race (skillier drivers)?
So, I see (and can participate in) all the available races?

This is correct. The new season in AC starts tomorrow, and none of the races there have a minimum rating requirement. You can enter any race you want (just remember to practise, practise, practise!).

In the past there have been some races where only people with a high rating (something like 600+) could enter, but I haven't seen any of those in a long time.

it is shame some series are not with rating (and incident AVG) limit

As I understand it, we can make 5 races/week (the "same race"?) and only the best one counts?
But rating is affected by inccidents in all races?

5 races of the same series, yes. When you do more than 5 races of the same series in a week not your best result counts, but your average result.

The rest: yes
