PSA: Tatuus FA01 has tires that wear out
#1
Just so you guys know, both softs and mediums will be pretty much in the deep red at the end of 20 minutes. You MIGHT want to think about mixing in what that feels like during practice before every single one of you spins out of control seemingly for no reason, and then tries in vain to tuck back onto the track right into the racing line in front of a dozen or so cars.

I need some massive practice with that thing. I crashed it 4x yesterday at Road Atlanta - luckily it was just me being stupid by myself...

I had much better luck driving the 787b - it was a lot more fun too.

To be fair, Road Atlanta has a couple of very challenging turns to take at speed... and those turns become death traps when your tires get into the red (or even the yellow if you have been practicing those turns right on the edge of grip, offline). But yeah... for any car that has tires that actually wear out in a 20 minute race, folks need to experience it and account for it.

I highly recommend the proTyres app, as it literally has what amounts to being a "hit point bar" that shows you when your average tire grip is going to start performing at a much lower ability. CrewChief also helps as he'll tell you when your tires are starting to show their age (these audio queues happened to line up perfectly with proTyres during my race last night I was happy to hear/see).

I am doing my first SRS series in this car next week, is this how the tires are are going to wear?
Cheers

It depends on your driving style, but yeah, for the most part, if you are doing fairly fast laps, your tires are going to turn into mush the last 3-4 laps in the race on mediums. I assume sooner on softs. You gradually have to go easier and easier in this situation.

Thanks, I installed CrewChief I can't believe how well it works and how easy it was to setup. One annoyance I've had with AC was that there was no Crew Chief or spotter like in other games. This add-on solves that beautifully. I love it when developers allow such great extensibility through mods.

As far as I remember the tires maintain a pretty good grip level even when they're worn out already. They're still pretty good when they're at 50 and even less.

It's not the end of the world, but as I said... if you have been getting around Road Atlanta right on the edge for most of the race, there's a point where the tires will stop doing what you hope they will and you'll spin out really unexpectedly. Or maybe I'm just bad at detecting this change outside of big, glowy lights on my tyre app? It could certainly be the latter. But given how many off tracks I saw two days ago towards the end of the race where it was just a single car off track with no one else around, I imagine I'm not the only one needing to adjust their driving style mid-race. Hence the thread. Big Grin

I don't use any apps... I try to have as little on my HUD as possible. With VR it really adds to the immersion not having all of that stuff in your face. I'll check out Crew Chief, though. That one sounds like it wouldn't be too intrusive.

Yeah Crewcheif is absolutely excellent, really adds to the immersion, be sure to find the option to enable swearing so he is even more believable lol! You can even talk to him and ask questions etc, but I don't use that feature as with surround speakers my mic is unusable over engine noise, but apparently it is very good.
