Latency limits

And this happens every day because someone with a connection not suitable for online gaming connects to the server and is not auto kicked out as they would be on decent public servers nowadays.

Sure it may not always impact me personally, but I do still make an effort not to race with extreme laggers and wreckers. The racing you can have with low latency opponents is another level, bumper to bumper racing with no incident contacts, no warping and teleporting that would explode the cars apart.

If you have 120ms in Spain, then you have about 60ms loss with your ISP. It's 59ms to Malaga for me from middle of nowhere rural small town with ISP using wireless connections to even be able to connect these rural towns as there are no optic cables to every tiny town or such, certainly not at affordable prices even for ISPs if there are any at all. Sure it's not always easy to find a good ISP, but there always are a few around and if not then it's actually profitable to be one.

Maybe is my ISP, but i can't do nothing about it, is Movistar, the biggest company here.

I typically ping about 140 to 180 to the German servers... and sub 30 to the NA servers. I think only a handful of times I've encountered cases where everyone on the server was warping (typically an indication that I'd be the problem) but only one of those cases turned out it was me and not the server having issues. Apparently my router needed a reboot. I have zero latency issues with the server. When I see someone warping they will typically have a red name label and their ping can be anything from 100 to 400.

Ping is not everything, ladies and gentlemen. As much as Jaroslav is beating that drum on these forums, it is very possible to race safely and cleanly with a 250 or less ping so long as your connection is stable. I.e. stop trying to use wireless for gaming, and pause all your porn torrents before the lights go out, and you should be fine. Big Grin

I indorse every word from Russell. I had very clean races, without any kind of issues even in RaceRoom that is havier on multiplayer than AC and ping sensitive. I have 180ms in American servers and I was able to have a really tight race 2 days ago with Alex Nelson on SimForceSimEnthusiast's Ginetta, every lap, some side-by-side or late braking, clean race without any incident or even contact. Some days ago, I had a great battle with Alex Leif in some European Server that was like that one I told before but the only incident I had wasn't because of ping and totaly my fault for forgetting cold brakes at the second straight of Road America, that luckly didn't any harm to anybody because that move. Because on ping, I was shut off from server some days ago on R3E because probably a different route I had that day that changed my usual ping. The problem is not only this attribute, but stability of the service sometimes. Therefore, the most important factor is what is not related to ping, because most of incidents are avoidable and dependable of skill and compromise of players.

after various incidents with brazilians with 300 of ping and argentinians... yes, i have to admit the latency limits... and i think there must be less incidents to ban someone...

That's shitty South American Internet Connections... not ping. This horse is so brutally dead.

Thumbs Up
Everytime you wonder about ping, please, see this 7min fight till the end. What would you prefer...A "high" ping with skilled drivers or excellent ping with shitty guys?

Cheers.

P.S.: Car that brakes from 330 to 70 in 150m and NO BRAKE LIGHTS.
