AC Competizione
#1
What do you guys think?  Night time, weather, ranking system, sound great.  But I am not interested in a one-series sim, especially not modern GT cars.  I wonder if we will see DLC for road cars, open wheel, historic cars, etc?  This is my hope.  Otherwise I might be the guy who is playing AC after everyone has left.

Somebody on reddit commented: "i read this as Assetto Corsa 2: Prologue" – which I think it is as well.

Somewhere further down the road they will release a proper new Assetto Corsa with all the things they've learned from making Competizione.

But as is, I'm also not interested.
Amazing list of awesome achievements: 5th Lotus 25 2018, 4th DRM 2019, 5th Williams FW14 vs. Ferrari 643 2019, 3rd Ferrari 312T vs. Lotus 72D 2020

I just hope SRS and Content Manager adapt to the new version if at all possible, which is alot of work i'm sure, otherwise we may lose some drivers here.

Yeah, if SRS doesn't pick it up I won't be picking it up. And this is in no way trying to add pressure to the SRS folks.... if they don't feel like including it or looking to include it, I think AC will still be alive and well here without it.

I am looking forward to this, even GT aren't my favourite cars... specially if SRS joins the boat (despite it is going to have its own ranking system, so idk about the usefullness there...)

Anyway, here are some confirmed stuff Mike Rudland compiled for us:

Features & content

- Driver swaps confirmed
- They will use the 2018 season for the content
- There will be 10 circuits (you can find them on the Blancpain calendar)
- Official leaderboards (basically RSR inside the game)
- Ranking system for both skill and safety similar to iRacing (he mentions the latest GranTurismo's one). They hired the guy behind Minorating for this
- They will follow their philosophy, so the handling will be realistic (as it was in AC)
- Tyre model, aero and suspension geometry will be improved thanks to new developers that have been hired in the last year (one of them is also a mechanical engineer)
- ACC will be more versatile and easier to use for people with less experience (which doesn't mean less realism)

Pricing & release

- Early Access (beta version) at a lower price than the release one
- No release date announced, not even approximately

On Unreal Engine 4

- Choice of UE4 was driven by desire of focusing on the features that were lacking in AC1, basically "gameplay features" like implementing the various RL regulations, better career mode, better AI etc. (He supports this decision by saying that Kunos' competitors, even though with a way bigger workforce, have decided to avoid writing an Engine by themselves)
- They have worked 8 months during 2017 on R&D testing the Unreal Engine, Marco says that it has been an huge risk because they still didn't know if UE4 was the right choice. He mentions as an example the need to do separate renders for the mirrors, which they had trouble to implement initially as UE4 engine is "general" and not geared towards sim use. This required weeks of telemetry of how it works, how it uses CPU/GPU etc.
- The assets needed some rework as well, in order to be optimized for the different engine (as a result of the aforementioned analysis)
- They will also probably use UE4 for their future projects
- He praises the photorealism of the Unreal Engine, even though some months were needed before both the eye candy and the framerate started to get to the desired level
- They took some inspiration on how to solve some issues they had from videos of other games made with the Unreal Engine, mainly the ones made by Milestone

On collaboration between real racing teams & Blancpain

- With this license they are going to have an even stronger collaboration between Kunos and drivers/racing teams
- They will be at many racing weekends in order to gather data from the teams
- Many teams use AC for the training of their pilots. Some of the teams also asked them some advice to build their own simulator
- Many drivers asked Kunos help to setup simulators in order to train for new tracks, for example
- They received numerous eSports contacts, but for the moment they are focusing on the development of the game. (Based on the way he talked about this, I believe esports will come)
- Kunos is working on a connection between virtual and real Blancpain (for example ideal time laps vs real ones, plus something similar to RSR with invitations to the races for the fastest guys, he mentions GranTurismo's Academy)

About AC1

- Expected AC sales : 100 thousand copies, results about 1.4 million users
- He mentions comments of people on Facebook that were saying to him that the training/playing time in AC proved useful to catch the car in RL critical situations

I am very much interested in the new game, weather and a day night cycle is all i miss in AC. Even if its only a placeholder for AC2 i dont mind buying into the early access (which will prob be cheap) to get my hands on it. Even if its only for one class of cars.

And seeing how Kunos has worked with the guys from SRS to make it work for AC I dont see why there wont be a new app coming for ACC as well.

And something been noticed by our fellow giuseppe mazzei is that in the Blancpain regulations says on article 111:

"111. Drivers must use the track at all times.
The white lines defining the track edges are considered to be part of the track but the kerbs are not."

So expect kunos cut track detecting system to be improved... As he said, better start getting used to it lol

That is very strange, because real Blancpain racers use the curbs quite liberally.

I do hope they improve the cut penalty system. The "slow down" penalty creates dangerous situations. There should be a server option to give a drive-through or time penalty.

My bad, the rule isnt quoted entirely, in the full rule you might get another impression about kerb using. But as it is by now, it seems to me it is way too permissive..

"111. The white lines defining the track edges are considered to be part of the track but the kerbs are not. A driver will be judged to have left the track if no part of the car remains in contact with the track. Should a car leave the track for any reason the driver may rejoin. However, this may only be done when it is safe to do so and without gaining any advantage. Drivers consistently crossing the white lines defining the edge of the circuit, whether or not they gain an advantage, will be stopped during the free practices, have their lap time(s) cancelled during qualifying and may receive a “drive through”, during the race. The Stewards of the Meeting can apply any other penalty available. Notifications will be for the car, not the driver."
