Yes, maybe it's time to do something different.
A multiclass championship might be the way to go. That's something that is difficult to see elsewhere, and this platform already has the technology to make this happen. Offering a race of two at week, and doing some promotion on YouTube and simracing forums and blogs may revive these sims with low attendance.
For this kind of cases with spread players I would try to offer a 'league style' mode instead of the the current 'race at any time' thing, as that's already supported by the game itself. The point is to offer something unique to grow a stable community of racers like the private leagues have.
