Rookie Series - Janai Peinado - 03-24-2020

I just realised that there are no rookie series on SRS. After the Abarth 500 from the previous months, now us, the rookies are just lost. Why not Mazda Cup races or something like this? They are easy to handle, fun and hard to master to its limits.

Sounds like a Lotus or Skippy series to me Big Grin Maybe more Skip, because it's slower and you can catch it more easily.

But it would be nice if new people would have one separate series. It doesn't even have to be extra one, it can be rating limited split of one of the daily ones.

RE: Rookie Series - Russell Sobie - 03-24-2020

  • Too many different timezones to cover.
  • Not enough population in general across all of those timezones.
  • Waste of server space if non-rookies can't join as well.
  • Rookies racing only rookies doesn't teach rookies much of anything but more bad habits. Better to have them join races and record replays of people at the front of the grid doing clean battles than them fumbling around in the dark.
Race with everyone that registers for every race, file protests against people who are clueless/aggressive/retaliatory/dangerous. It isn't perfect, but nothing about simracing online ever is.

This season did need at least one fixed-setup hourly series, though. It's tough for new drivers to jump in to open-setup series and be competitive, unless it's in a street car that doesn't have many adjustments anyway. The GTA-M is not exactly a beginner car. Big Grin The Skip Barber is OK but not an easy car to handle sometimes.
Stay tuned for season 3, I guess.

That is what happens to me. There are a lot of easier cars than Skip Barber... But to reach that skill lvl needs lots of hours solo playing... and as I am looking, you learn way more driving with more people than solo. Maybe not hourly series, but just a bit regular ones...

If you want to learn how to drive carefully, test your skills against the AI at about 40% aggression. If you can avoid accidents in a crowded AI field, you can do it against people.

Skip is pretty easy to handle, all you need to do is not ovedrive the car, overall most drivers here brake too late and too much, then they do stupid lines trough corner, have to turn way to much, get very slow midcorner, then slide when leaving the corner because of way too much steering and gas, this is what will cost you a lot of time. Just brake early with not too much brake pressure, relase brake and let the car glide nicely trough the corner and then on apex start accelerating gently. If you spin the tyre on exit it will cost you a lot of time, same for late braking and locking tyre. And default setup is pretty good, there isnt much you can set anyway, maybe just increase tyre pressure a bit especially for the front where it is hard to keep reasonable temps. Changing other things like more negative camber, toe and rear rolbar makes the car maybe a bit faster because it wants to turn a bit more, but also way more unstable. And dont expect you gonna beat drivers who are racing for 20 years in the first few races, it might happen if you are really talented but its kinda unlikelly Smile

Well... Since I wrote this post I tryed iRacing and SkipBarber on the same track... and is way more difficult to drive on Assetto Corsa than on iRacing... On Assetto seems like it goes always floating while on iRacing you can feel the aerodynamics and get stuck to the road depending on the speed...

Maybe is the way Assetto works... but at least i feel Skippy very difficult for begginers.

The Skip Barber car here is a mod and doesn't have the decades of work behind it that the iRacing Skippy has. The AC version is fine but it's in a different universe from the iRacing one.

RE: Rookie Series - Simon Meisinger - 04-09-2020

setting the toe of the Skip barber to something rediculous like 100 makes it quite easy to drive, in my opinion
