Lancia Fulvia! Boats in the Sand!
#1
Such a fun car, on a fun track. However... apparently many folks seem to think that if it's a "daily series" it must be easy mode. Not so!

If you haven't turned 20 clean laps in a row on Bridgehampton in a Fulvia, you probably shouldn't be clicking that Register button. There were no less than 5 cars that I lapped this morning and I came in 8th.

Granted... no one that needs this advice is reading this post, so I guess just call this thread the "Unofficial Lancia Fulvia Series Discussion Thread" so the rest of you sane people can come here to bitch about how you shouldn't be braking for Turn 1 at Bridgehampton. Or how approaching turn one like this is... well... ill-advised.

It's very scary coming upon lapped cars @ Bridgehampton. It requires extra thought just to time it right not to have contact with the lappers, while trying to maintain a lead.

I am still not prepared to go to the track but watching streamings is really funny. Today’s Butler vs. Herrmann was nice!

Now just imagine having partaken in one of Can Am events round The Bridge during its glory days. Talk about pucker factor.

Few complaints on server chat of difficulty but IIRC in real life the sand was DEEP just off the tarmac as well. One stray tire onto the beach and you'd be ass over tea kettle. Daily racers have it easy in comparison. Big Grin

Love the car and track pairing. Mike I hope for my sake the 1.45s are with a draft down the straight Tongue  Solid lap times!

I haven't practiced enough to participate yet, but I have to ask am I the only one who's reading the title as "Bottas in the Sand" all the time? Smile

Over the last week in the Mini Challenge daily's there was also a ton of traffic. We sometimes lapped 10 cars, in a 20 min race! But that was mainly due to the short circuit, here it's because people are struggling. There's one remedy for that though: practise!

I don't see the joy in joining an online event if I'm 5 secs off the pace at best or don't even know car and track at worst. But that counts for every series.

Mike weaving through traffic in front of me was a masterclass! Controlling the pace to catch up with tem at opportune moments on track while at the same time not allwoing me to get too close. And then I was left with trying to squeeze through on a wing and a prayer ... that was some serious racecraft!

My main problem: I can't get that thing off the liine. I've had pole in every race but 1, and I've never made it to t1 better than 3rd ... no idea what I'm missing and I spent an hour watching start replays yesterday and then next race Leo just blows by me at start again ... argh!

Cheers

So apparently if the really fast guys don't stay up late in Europe, it's possible for me to get a podium finish. Thanks to Jari Penttinen for winning decisively yesterday morning. Watching him pull away from the pack and do clean and fast laps in the replay let me correct the approaches for 3 different turns. Got my lap time down consistent mid 46s at Bridge Hampton which is a good second faster than I was yesterday.

a lot of good post here.
when i'm getting ready for a race i do hot laps till i can run consistent laps.
then i do an A.I. race starting in last place. stay last or in the back of the pack for the first lap, then i try to win.
benefits of the ai race is you can practice different braking points when your trying to pass.
i think it makes you faster all around.
fun car/track.
looking forward to the sim pit race tonight.

I did this a while back, but the AI takes some questionable lines on some tracks so I instead (if I have enough free time) do laps where every other turn I take an alternate line to see how much I need to adjust brake points and turn ins to not just keep it on the track, but also hold as much speed as possible. Passing humans (at least on SRS) is wildly different than passing AI cars (or humans out "in the wild"), so I mostly just rely on experience to guide approaching overtakes combined with (again, hopefully) practiced alt-lines through corners.

I have not tried the Fulvia on the Bridge combo, but it seems as fun as the thread title Tongue  ( Lancia Fulvia! Boats in the Sand! )
