DRM Revival
#71
this really should become an endurance series, a whole season of one-hour-races would be great
Amazing list of awesome achievements: 5th Lotus 25 2018, 4th DRM 2019, 5th Williams FW14 vs. Ferrari 643 2019, 3rd Ferrari 312T vs. Lotus 72D 2020

Congrats to Alex Nelson on his DRM championship and to Seb for a runner up Smile knocking up on those points pays off. A bit saddened too see that not many drivers run all of the races, a full season, this one or the one before. Pretty similar with some other good series I ran before.
This last DRM race was interesting, a bit different with 200% tirewear and 1-hour lenght. Proved to show very similar finishing times in the end no matter the strategy you chose. I went with the classic half-way pitstop. And it's a really loooong one. Had a great chase and race with Rob Russo in the first part. And then was really picking up the pace in the second half of the race so came a bit short of laps in the end Big Grin

was my first DRM race this season as i'm not that much of a fan of 20 min events.
my biggest problem were probably the curbs at mosport (and the fact, that this was my first event in the BMW M1 since two? seasons ago)

anyways: would also appreciate if this series had longer events if it's only once a week.
at least i have to adjust the stock setup for the BMW M1 for it to be driveable, and that's not really worth it for a one-time 20 minute event IMHO.

I'd really enjoy another endurance-series with those cars!

I didn't have much time for sim racing in the last couple of weeks, so I only attended one race, but it would be amazing to have another opporturnity for a whole season.

had a very intense fight with Joona and Michal over more than two laps in the last race, maybe the most intense 20 minutes of sim racing in my life so far: https://youtu.be/_qkRX-crZOc?t=1982

( and then wrecked my engine because it couldn't handle my aggressive downshifting after having the turbo set to 100% while trying to overtake Joona …)

I can say pretty much the same about DRM at SRS so far! However, I'm afraid something must have turned away a bunch of people that ran before. Either it's the 1 hour races (might be too long for some people), the fact that the mod is a paid mod, the difficulty of driving these cars... Or simply that it's been 4th straight season ran now and maybe got worn out a bit. Maybe it needs a break, and then return later.

I would also recommend running this DRM series with Division 1 and Division 2 cars separated. Similar to what we've had before with division 2 cars only, BMWs 320/2002 and Escort. Either change between these two, season after season, or have two separate series in one season. I don't think those cars should mix together in a race since we don't run them with rules of two classes racing together, which with all their differences, they are. But some people don't know it when choosing cars and maybe get discouraged or are hazards for drivers in faster cars.

yes, a break should help with attendance

And maybe just 40-minute-races?

I really wanted to race this time, but I found some of the tracks too small for the cars. I feel that they need classic flowing tracks to get the best from the racing.

Another factor for me is that I don't really like driving the Capri or Porsches, but they are the quickest. Has any car other than a Porsche or Capri won anything?

Agree that the cars could benefit from being split into classes. The Div 2 season was great fun. I've been discussing with some people on a Discord group about the faster cars having a restrictor on the power or some weight added to the faster cars. This might not be historically accurate, but it would increase the choice for a car that can win.

Just my 2 pence worth of opinion.

i though the Valleunga club is not for these Gr5 cars but the race was very intensive from start to finish , all the time fights with small gaps, maybe hardest race in season
