Rolling Schedule for Daily Series
#1
I'm positive that someone else proposed something like this in the last couple of months, but I couldn't find it again to re-propose it. Basically I want to see if it might be possible to drive more than just a couple of cars in future seasons by having all three of the daily AC racing series do a "rolling schedule". So basically instead of it being Skip Barber at 8AM my time every morning of the week, it's Skip Barber on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays, and the other days of the week would be Porsche GT3Cup or Nissan Primera, etc..

Here's a graphic to compare what it is now to what this proposal would do to it:

In this graphic, from this seasons cars and based on my time zone, A=Porsche GT3 Cup, B=Nissan Primera, and C=Skip Barber. I might be in the minority, but maybe not(?) where I only have a few time slots to actually set aside for sim racing... in my case it's 8AM and then Monday and Tuesday evenings. This worked out fairly well for me this season since I quite dig the three cars I got to race on the regular... but there have been seasons where the car at 8AM wasn't my favorite. Or worse and much more common is that I love ALL THREE daily cars and I only get to race in the one that happens to fall in slot C!

So basically I'm wondering how much of a pain it would be to cycle the race schedule every day so that every time slot for Daily Racing series gets to see all three Daily cars throughout the week. And if this is even desired by other SRS drivers. Do people instead like knowing every day that at 5PM it's going to be Car X, and after that it is Car Y, and after that, Car Z, every day?

A couple of fun facts found while doing this up in Excel:
  • Cycling the races helps even out the number of races per car over a week. Currently Car A and B each show up 42 times, whlie Car B gets 49 races a week. With the rolling schedule, Car A gets 45 races, and B and C each get 44.
  • People racing at 23:00 that really like that race get to do that same race back to back as you roll into the next day at 00:00.
Thoughts? I know anything is possible with code, but is this even feasible? Do people like the Dailies as they are now? Is there an even better way to mix this up that is more predictable but would allow more people to drive different cars more easily?

There is a good reason for the schedule work like it does, it is simple and straightforward.
Meaning that just by looking at the series page, the users will quickly know what they can or can't race for 6 weeks without having to think about what will they find if they race on monday 20:00 or wednesday 21:00.

Altough fully automated, keeping things simple sometimes works best.

I don't know if I'd call the series page "simple and straightforward" unless you live in GMT or somewhere real close to it. If you mean this page: http://www.simracingsystem.com/upcomingseries.php where you can hit the "pill" button and see all the different hours a particular series is going to pop every day, granted. It's fairly simple to thumb through those and eventually find the daily series that says 08:00 and start practicing that one car. Although I'm pretty sure a number of users have problems finding that pill button.

But since these are daily races I'm talking about, if you were to roll them per the proposed changes, then I would think that people would simply register for whatever race is available in the time slots they have time to race in. Do people actually plan days in advance what Daily car races they are going to race in?

For the Youtuber series I think everyone plans ahead, especially those of us in the states since we have to remember that on the series announcement, Sunday = Monday, and Monday = Tuesday, etc.. Wink I guess my thinking is, for Daily races, it seems like it shouldn't matter as much that they are all that predictable with the current presentation.

I suppose if you were to do a rolling schedule with these races, it would be preferred have more of a calendar view that literally showed what every race every hour of every day for the 6 week period would be. But frankly... that would be useful to have even without changing the schedule.

what I meant is that between the 'Race' page and 'daily schedule' you get everything quick regardless of your timezone (as long as you set it on your profile)

Race page - youtuber and 1 race/week series, check the counter, you know when it is, expand the table if you want but you don't have to in order know when the race will be held.
Daily series, don't want to expand the table on the race page? check daily schedule, repeats every day.

As a person with limited time, zero interest in championships and much interest in variety of racing experience, I would support such rolling schedule

Ah... see, I guess I literally never look at the Daily Schedule specifically because the schedule is set to repeat every day. My workflow is, at the start of a season, look at the upcoming series page, figure out what Monday and Tuesday night have for me then find out which daily series is at 08:00. Once I have that information, I never have to look at anything but the registration page after that.

If it were rolling, I'd have to check the Daily Schedule to see what was going on THAT day. Or again better yet... just go directly to registration 15 minutes or so before an hour I can race. It would make my life a teeny bit more complicated... but at least I'd get to paint more than 3 cars every 6 weeks. Wink

Hi,

I just posted the same topic in other thread and then i saw this.
I agree with you guys. It´d be nice to have a rolling schedule so if you race at the same time of the day every day you´d be able to race with different cars and tracks. I´m not worried about points or champioships, just variety and fun.

Greatings,
Alex
