How to get real time info from game
#1
Hi all,
For my (very humble) racing setup I would like to add 1 DoF. That is rotation of the car about the vertical axis.
The reason for this is that I noticed that I do not countersteer while racing as I do not get the feeling of the car spinning out, the visual input is not enough for me. If I finally notice I have to countersteer it's usually too late and I have totally spun out the car or the speed has gone completely.
I know I can buy a USB joystick interface PCB but I have no idea how to retreive the needed data from the game and how to convert that into a motor running CW or CCW with a certain speed/acceleration depending on the intensity and direction of the car spinning out.
If I can get data that can be read by an Arduino Uno I think I must be able to convert that to input for some sort of ESC controlling the motor to rotate the rig.
Can anybody direct me to the information needed to do it?
For now I'm only gathering information as it is important for me to know how much it would cost me to build it.
Thanks in advance and best regards,
Leo

That sounds like a crazy project. Best of luck on that (as I have no expertise in that realm at all), but I will offer my super lo-fi and 100% cheap solution, at least for Assetto Corsa, and that's to use Real Head Motion. There's a few options in it that really help clue you in visually that you are sliding, and knows to "look into the vector instead of out the front of the car" when you actually put it sideways. Recovering from drift slides is trivial for me with this thing working.
