Mudbox hardware requirements
#1
For any Mudbox users wondering what systems your using?

Looking to upgrade in the next 6 months and want to know if a mudbox machine will be in reach. No budget yet.
Currently running
I5-3570k @ 4GHz
16gb ddr3 1600
gtx 960 2gb ram
240 ssd for programs + mechanical for storage
Windows 7
This crashes soon as you try and do anything in Mudbox Suspect graphic ram(lack of) is a big hindrance.

Know i'll be upgrading to 2x ssd and gfx card minimum. cpu, mboard ram not sure yet. It's still early days.

Probably the video ram, but might also be the OS. I've been on both a GeForce 970 4GB and a GeForce 1070Ti 8GB, on Windows 10 Home 64bit. That said, Mudbox will still crash if you look at it funny, even on my faster box. Save early and often once you do get a beefier system!

Here's the two sets of specs for both of my recent rigs:

I5-6600K @ 3.50Ghz
16GB RAM
Geforce 970 4GB
250GB SSD
Windows 10 Home 64bit

I5-9600K @ 3.70Ghz
16GB RAM
Geforce 1070Ti 8GB
500GB SSD
Windows 10 Home 64bit

The latter I built for ~1000 USD just before the holidays. Good luck!

Thank you Russell.
Think i'll be going new graphics card/ssd and win 10 to start. Makes it a bit cheaper in the short run too Smile
The processor still seems to hold its own. Not sure of the speed difference between ddr3/4 I know i get to 16gb quite regularly
