For the most part it's been pretty sub-par racing as many drivers cannot seem to do a clean lap 1, and then later on, deal with tire degradation and start losing control in the most unoportune moments (right in front of me, like clockwork). All that said, I figured I better paint my car, so here's the result:

This is a pretty awesome skin, nice job Russell. Praga gave us a really great canvas to work from and then I think you found some particularly good angles or aspects to highlight. In real life this could be an art car!

Always awesome skins Russell, your fault i started skinning in AC!

I've been busy plodding away working on team skins.

Question for Russell, Working on a 3D model how much time do you think you save over 2D maps. Especially doing the base level paint? I'm spending at least 3 hours a car just doing stripes.

3D editing removes any time wasted lining up elements that require continuity over multiple panels that are not adjacent on the 2d map. High quality UV maps almost by definition have panels all over the place so fill in the entire texture to get the highest detail possible... so pretty much most cars are cut up in a way that isn't all that intuitive when just looking at the UV map in 2d. The majority of my slap-dash liveries tend to be very stripe heavy specifically because doing stripes in 3D is about the biggest bang for the buck. I imagine your green stripes would be a complete pain just looking at it in 2D, while in 3D that'd take no time at all.

I've done entire skins in 30 minutes that were just a bunch of well placed stripes and my usual smattering of logos. Smile

Thanks for the response. Think i'll have to seriously look into 3D painting!
You mentioned all the troubles i've been having. Working in 2d is like a jigsaw sometimes.

Are we still posting what we're currently running in this thread?
This is my BMW M235i for this season, I'm quite proud of it:

Thanks Russel!

No, I only ever have time for the 8 o'clock (GMT+1) slot.
I just really enjoy skinning my car and love putting a lot of time into it. I'd actually love it if we knew sooner what cars are up in the next season. I'd get my livery prepared.

I might be up for making skins on demand, but I'm not sure how much enjoyment would be left after a few comissions. Tongue
But I guess if anyone's interested in a variation on this theme, I could make it... Maybe with sponsors of your choice, your own colors... you know...

Ah well, I guess I'll get a PM if anyone's interested... Big Grin

Nice skin!

You're not alone in wanting to know sooner. I think everybody who does skins does.
I'm going to get the mudbox trial next season and see if it's worth me buying.

Tried Mudbox and no luck. Can get the model loaded and cleaned up as per your guide but so as I start trying to paint it crashes.
Think I need to feed the hampsters some spinach.
