Helicorsa for everyone
#1
Hello,
I'm not a pro driver, i do my set up and training before a race.
I did install apps wich seem needed to me, as the usefull sidekick or the challenging RSR live timing.
As i practice a track i do some progress, and i manage to overtake some drivers.
Here comes the trouble : as i'm not fast enough to be first i'm running with people who can't handle traffic,
and ususally it finishes me being pushed outside the track.
I'm using the protest form when needed, but it would be really, and i mean REALLY, nice if everyone
driving in a SRS race had the app HELICORSA installed.
This radar is so usefull, everytime, in each race, that i wonder why it is not requested already !?
So, this post to ask that HELICORSA being mandatory to enter in a SRS race.
Thanks in advance.
Regards

Mandatory apps being installed isn't really something the SRS backend is meant to police, so at the most it would be suggested that people use it. I certainly recommend to everyone.

Just FYI, there's also the app "Car Radar" which does a few things much better than Helicorsa (I actually use both!). Give it a shot.

Helicorsa is mandatory for a good experience, to your and your oponents!
In qualify I also use circuit map, to see cars off track up ahead trying to get back on track and in the middle of the road

This topic has been beaten to death many times before. SRS has no way of enforcing mandatory apps as far as we know.

I'll always fight for people to have the right to choose what apps and camera views they want to use. The way I see it as long as they're having fun and racing cleanly then I have no issue. Apps like helicorsa and car radar help with spacial awareness but don't instantly make people race cleanly. That comes with practice, experience and a general level of respect for the other people on track.

Hello,
Thank you for the interest you give to simracing and the respect of other racers and rules.

@Russell Sobie : " Just FYI, there's also the app "Car Radar" which does a few things much better than Helicorsa (I actually use both!). Give it a shot. "
Thank you for the information, i'll surely do.

@Will Dawson : " This topic has been beaten to death many times before. "
I didnt search enough it seems, sorry.

@Will Dawson : " SRS has no way of enforcing mandatory apps as far as we know. "
On the other hand, SRS can ban anyone after a valid protest form.

@Will Dawson : " ...as long as they're having fun and racing cleanly... "
That was the point of my suggestion.
If anyone had a spacial awareness that would mean less stupid accidents, especially on the first turn on the first lap.

@Will Dawson : " That comes with practice, experience... "
I totally agree with you, and seeing people on track, i think they practice hot laps but no real races, at least in middle of bots.

@Will Dawson : " ...general level of respect for the other people on track. "
Once again, that was the point of the thread. Respect of others by applying rules when needed.
I did plenty of events last days, and in almost each one a racer ruined my race.
I overtake and the other racer push me...and no apologies and no wait. That lead to think that was on purpose...
I know mistakes and technical incidents occur, but when it's the case, a respectfull racer apologies and waits for the "victim".
And, i far as i can remember, are the basic rules of SRS, don't they ?

Basic rules are here: http://www.simracingsystem.com/regulation.php

It specifically says you shouldn't use chat. I think this is more for during the race so you aren't disturbing other drivers, as well as to ward against potty mouth reactions to incidents. But like a few things here on SRS, the terms are very broad and open for interpretation. There is zero about people giving positions back after they screw up and punt/spin/whatever someone else. That's basically just a gentlemen's agreement that not enough people know about.

I would love there to be more specific rules somewhere and have brought it up a few times here on the forums and in various protests forms where a particular incident appears to be intentional but not in a way that was vengeful or anything... just... people not knowing what a dive bomb is and thinking I'm supposed to know when they are going to take an inside line they haven't earned yet. There is a LOT of that.

Hello,

Thank you for the link about the rules in SRS.
It seems i mixed SRS rules and some other server's ones. Anyway, i still think that waiting for a pilot should be more than courtesy and is a proof of not being guilty.

Here is the link to FIA site, where official rules are available : https://www.fia.com/.
FIA GT world cup, for exemple : https://www.fia.com/regulation/category/629
19.5 More than one change of direction to defend a position is not permitted. Any driver moving back towards the racing line, having earlier defended his position off-line, should leave at least one car width between his own car and the edge of the track on the approach to the corner.
19.6 Manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers, such as deliberate crowding of a car beyond the edge of the track or any other abnormal change of direction, are not permitted.

It's common to see people zig-zaging to block, or remove slipstream. Also being pushed, by any means, from behind or by the side. I think that all these behaviors should be reported and be punished.
It's not as if i wanted to be a policeman, but more as a quite pilote.

More specifically, in section 16, we can read about incidents :

d) Caused an avoidable collision.
e) Forced a driver off the track.
f) Illegitimately prevented a legitimate overtaking manoeuvre by a driver.
g) Illegitimately impeded another driver during overtaking.

I think that to be legitimate, an overtake is when the car is engaged, that means when the last car's front wheel is by side of the first car's rear wheel.
And here the magic loop, Helicorsa ( or equivalent ) is helpfull, if not needed to see clearly when an overtake is legitimate.
If the car is not engaged, blocking is still an option to the first pilote, as long as it is his first move. Then a push is forbidden and dive bomb becomes dangerous in this case.

Maybe all this has been already discussed on other forums, i don't know. I didn't search enough because track rules are new to me, being involved from a short time.
