SRSSkin Transfer App issues
#1
As posted in the thread for this app here: http://www.simracingsystem.com/showthrea...1#pid19731
I have made two separate skins for the Audi TT Cup for the "russell_sobie" folder, and I'm seeing other drivers unable to get the new skin. I can't tell if SRSTV and other drivers on youtube that have seen my skin this season got the old one recently (i.e. my updated texture hasn't actually been uploaded to the SRSSkin server) or if they got my old skin because they raced with me in the last 5 seasons or so where we did the Audi TT Cup before.
I experimented with changing the file size on the main skin file EXT_skin.dds and the skin app said my changes were successfully updated, SRSTV didn't show it yesterday. I don't know if actual drivers successfully downloaded it... and if they did, if they bothered to restart their client after getting the update and actually saw it.
My questions are these:
  1. If someone wants to have multiple skins for a single car, what are their options? Can you have multiple folders for a single driver somehow (russell_sobie, russell_sobie2, russell_sobie3)?
  2. At what point does SRSTV actually show an updated skin? Does it need to "restart" like a regular client does after downloading a skin?
  3. What is used to differentiate files to know that a skin has been updated? Filesize? Date modified?
  4. If the answer to #1 is "no, there is no way to do that" then how can I force other drivers to delete the old skin so they get the new hotness?
Thanks!

1 skin per car.

the app checks the date.
make a new folder somewhere else and put the new files on it. delete the old ones, and then copy the new folder to the right location.

Ahh... it checks the date of the folder? That would check out since I believe I've just been putting new textures in the old folder rather than making a new folder. Doh. Thanks!

That would explain why everyone was getting my old blue skin in the Tatuus last season rather than my black and yellow split... I deleted the old files and replaced them with the new ones but the folder was the same.

Confirmed this fix works. Apparently my ancient MX5 skin was still showing up in SRSTV broadcasts, see here: https://youtu.be/AdlLMz7hlAw?t=204

But now it looks proper. https://youtu.be/2mFAreneY8Q?t=897

Note that the livery.png and my EXT_banner image in both broadcasts is from the new skin. That's still a bit odd to me. But whatever. Rename old folder. Make new folder. Put new skin in new folder. Profit. Big Grin

They automatically get uploaded if you're running the SRS Skin Transfer app in AC. It must have your name as the folder/skin name, so peter_robinson in your case. Take a read through the instructions below and that should clear things up.

And one last final confirmation of making a new folder, my newer Audi TT Cup skin is visible to everyone using the App now (I wasn't able to find yesterday's race on SRSTV Youtube, so here's a link to Rogerio's video where he inadvertently showed off my skin while looking at his own):

So as long as I have a folder with the right name in the cars skin folder the app will just find it?

And your total data within that folder is within the data limit (I believe the 10 MB actually comes to like 9 point something). Yes, it'll just find it. Cool, right? I <3 it. Smile
