Skinning From Nothing
#11
Thank you for your informative tutorial, Russell!  Smile  I managed to "paint" the car in Blender after converting kn5-file with kn5conv.exe. I did most of the work earlier in Photoshop but it's a lot easier to work in 3D.

Good job! I tried Blender first before diving well into Mudbox and I could never figure out how to get a good workflow going. Any chance of making a tutorial for Blender?

I'm not very efficient in Blender.  Tongue   I've only used it occasionally in some hobby projects.. (like this), but I'll see what I can do.

Your tutorial is very weel done and easy too follow, the video you posted on the Seat Glass thread also helped A LOT.
Ill install mudbux in the future to play with it, maybe one day I can half as good as you sir.  Cool

Lookin' good! I love the circuit board theme, and that's a great color. Yeah... 6 hours in 2D is about right. Most cars take me between 1.5 and 3 hours, depending on the complexity of the design and/or if I'm trying to do something I've never done before.

I did a plain "red stripe with a number" on the Caterham last night 30 minutes before the race, instead of practicing. I don't recommend this. Big Grin

Thats a nice skin.
The tutorial is very handy. Helps alot with how to set the files up. I have tried blender and didn't get on with it. I find working on the 2d templates works fine for me ( i grew up doing skins that way) It takes a bit longer a few hours typically. My issue is i look at the skin online and always find something to change lol.

A useful site i found for converting .dds to .psd
https://convertio.co/dds-psd/
I've mainly used it for the rim blur files to change wheel colours as some templates don't come with it.
Basic design but still takes a while.
