Tobias and Richard ... There is a young man who posts on Youtube, emptybox, who races with a setup exactly like yours ...

How you guys drive so fast with your stuff bolted to a table ... and seated in a kitchen chair (or other) is beyond me.

I am humbled.  I can't even find the proper icon thingie to express it.

T

a year ago i too raced on kitchen chair (1,5h long races)  then bought car seat from scrapyard for about 10 EUR and mounted to piece of wood and onto 4 iron legs, totaly different so i was able to do 6h race in one go without pause (on HSO racing league)

Just after Christmas, my Logitech G27 died.  Intermittently (a word auto mechanics HATE!!!), the steering would die in the middle of a corner.  Any corner it wanted. Trying to repair it in my old PVC chassis proved very frustrating and almost impossible ... so I tore EVERYTHING apart and started over.

I couldn't find any advice for my problem on the 'net, so I bought a whole new G27 to use as a known-good-unit to help diagnose my old stuff .... but just to take a break from trying to figure out the electrics, I bought some steel tubing, and with some odds and ends left over from other crazy old man projects ... I welded up a whole new rig.

Everything is now mounted securely.  I can get into and out of this thing a lot easier than my old one, which is important for an old guy.  It's on wheels if I have to move it around and everything is a LOT easier to access and work on.  I can now adjust:

1. The seat forward and back and the seat back angle.
2. The shifter height, forward and back, L & R.
3.  The steering wheel forward and back, height and angle.
4.  The pedals height, angle and forward and back.
5.  The screen forward and back, angle and height.

... and, as before, the steering wheel is from my old MGB race car.  The seat is from an MGB as well. I built everything around the dimensions of the MGB cockpit.

The electrical problem turned out that one of the potentiometers in the pedals had a short.

This morning, after 2 months, I assembled all of it and got it all running.  I've run over 30 laps and not had a problem.   Big Grin

My next project will be adding load cells and etc. for the brake pedal.

great work Duncan

i had problem use my own pedals with G29 and the 2 things was important, the direction of pots and potentiometr value, brake pedal i must attach to my button box because G29 is only 3,3V (PS4 standard) instead of 5V so i attach to G29 throtle, clutch and one alone potentiometer (later used as handbrake) , the cluth vas 200kOhm because i have not other one and for arduinoit was acceptable, so after one day fight the pedals are working with G29

Raaah, I feel dumb. So simple. Good tip, thanks Russel!

Not being that clever, I went for another solution: straps and doorstops. Not so elegant but it works. Well, it worked until the desk itself started to move more and more. I think the rubber under the feet of the desk got worn or something. The thing would go back by 10-20 cm in the course of a race.
So fuck it, I'll glue the damn thing! Simple paper glue, of course it didn't last long. So I did it again. And again. And now there's so much dried glue, the desk won't budge at all Big Grin
So yeah, here's my rig, complete with dust and all.

Doorstops is something I considered at one point... I found these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WVM...UTF8&psc=1

And as cool as the wheels are, the stops on them stopped working after about 2 weeks of use locking both of them every race. Now I hook the wheel into my Wheelstand Pro to prevent sliding back.

Pierre i love the door stop! and i've just noticed the tape.

I used to use some kindling wood under mine. Now have braked casters.

My setup is very similar apart from i have my pedals up against a bit of wood wedged under the filing cabinet. Will post pics later.

Russell i use similar wheels to those and not had a problem.

Woah Ted. That's impressive.

Most other people would have just sold it for some bucks.

No Simon, what you guys are doing with tape and door stops and straps and kitchen furniture AND then beating me on the track EASILY is impressive.

As a VERY VERY old school mechanic ... I salute you all.

Here is my setup, Nothing fancy and only takes a minute to setup. Don't have the option to leave the wheel up all the time so lives under the stairs.

Block of wood is there to bring the pedals forward so the don't bang on the filing cabinet.
