MX-5 with autoclutch is for boys...
#18
Yes, game clutches feel crap. Also, aside from race starts and using it on downshifts into bends like trail braking, clutches don't have much use in a race. Just ease off the gas to relax tension on the gearbox, let in snick into the next gear then back on the gas.

Because there's no feel or biting point with a game clutch there's no point in having a long throw pedal. Race starts and controlling it into bends feels disconnected without feeling the biting point.

I remember years ago playing Forza (1 or 2) with a controller and finding I had an advantage with the clutch on, set to the A button. Just rock your thumb from A to X to go up or from A to B to go down. No connection to the real world but it was a bit quicker than the time it took the auto clutch to shift.

Speaking of shifting in the MX-5 Cup, does anyone else rev to the limiter each shift? Looking at the torque curve it looks better to shift early but on track it feels quicker to go to the redline.

Having said that, there's not a huge amount of difference and there are some bends you can take in 2 different gears and still come out at around the same speed.
