Personal Skins

Want a Custom Car Livery?

Not sure why I didn't post the thread under this sub-forum, but I've posted in "Off Topic" with an offer to create custom skins for folks here on the forums. It's free* and the turnaround time is going to be in flux, but so far I've had no one request a skin yet. I am hoping to do some painting on SOMETHING this weekend, so head over and check out my pitch deal!

*Free in that it only costs you taking a screenshot racing in an SRS race in the livery I eventually create for you. Just one screenshot though!

Edit: the mods have kindly moved the above thread over to the Paint Shop sub-forum. Is that sub-forum newly created just now, or has it always been there and I'm blind?! Either way, looks like that sub-forum needs some love.

Hey guys,

I thought it is solved. The possibility to use a personal skin from another driver.

But today I've seen, someone was using Ross Macfarlanes skin.

I really wouldn't like it, anybody is wrecking around in my skin.

Haha.

I've seen a few people in my BMW skin and yes, they haven't always been driving very well. I guess once the skin is on both the host and the client system then anyone could use it and have it show up. I have also seen the SRS TV car in my skin more than once on track and on the stream...Is that just a coincidence that it chooses a random skin when entering? Big Grin

I don't really mind that much but there must be a way to make it recognise the names of the driver and skin so they are not compatible?

I think it's not a very big deal to be honest. People can always see who was driving the car and in case of wrecking, the driver will probably end up being reported and punished by SRS admins in case that necessary.

It's also a compliment for the skin! Smile I'd like it if people would want to race in our BVI Racing Team skin (Blue/yellow: the Dutch National Police livery) Smile

Yup. Not a big deal. I have seen my skin used like 4 or 5 times now. I always PM the guy offering to make him his own version of my livery, but no one ever says yes. *shrug*

Two guys already copied my skins, I'm not even mad or anything, more like surprised someone is actually using them. However they have my name on them and that makes me unconfortable to have people racing with them. At least edit it out.

They probably aren't copying your skins... they simply click on available liveries on their hard drive. It's simply pointing to the directory with your name on it. I've taken to making my preview.jpg to include a bunch of text to make it clear that my skin is for Russell Sobie, and if they want their own skin, hit me up on the forums.

Unless of course they are literally copying your directory and renaming it to their name... in which case... wow, that's lazy. Big Grin

Wink

Google translate to the rescue for the Spanish-impaired like myself:

(03-03-2018, 12:39 PM)William Lopez via Google Translate Wrote:  Hello very good, I have been a little time in the networks and looking for this thread and the truth that I am glad hehehe I like the chick ke I do not understand this of the skins always and I have been able to play, until I started to investigate erxtrañado al see ke when I registered in a race had more car designs than I thought I had in the game and think about the x ke, I ran a couple of races really with the design that I like and the truth with no intention to use it until now that the name of the car I had chosen was the name of one who was in the race and who already said that he had a design, and that I already have my skin, that you think is the problem of using the skin of another comes many times from the inexperience and surely of some cabroncete also hehe.
And already wanted to see if I can help why I have my skin in the race see, I have the prewieu and my logo, but then when I put on the videos on YouTube my car looks white, I do not know if it will be the name of the folder or something, I hope you can help me a greeting.

Okay, from what I gather from this not so hot translation is that you are new and after a couple of races you magically started getting more options for skins, and so in later races you started picking some of these new options because they looked cool. It was purely accidental.

But now you have made your own skin which YOU can see in your own races, but shows up white on the youtube broadcasts.

One of these is likely happening:

  1. You don't have the SRS Skin App installed correctly. This is the case if you don't here someone talking to you when you first join an SRS race telling you "YOUR SKIN IS OKAY." Follow these instructions very carefully.
  2. If you hear a voice telling you there is a problem with your skin, you may have exceeded the 10MB limit. See below on how to fix this.
For cases where there is more than 10MB in your skin folder (which, by the way, should be named "william_lopez" exactly, no quotes) do the following:
  • Make sure the only files in that folder are for your skin. Don't store ".psd" or ".bmp" or other working source files. You only want things that end with ".dds" or are "livery.png" or "preview.jpg" or the two text-based files "skin.ini" and "ui_skin.json". Anything else is dead weight.
  • If your .dds files are too big, try exporting them as DTX3 instead of DTX5. You will hardly tell the difference in compression quality racing online and they are WAY smaller. Also, don't bother making your main car body skin bigger than 2048x2048. Again, hard to see the difference online.
I hope that helps. And I hope the above is better translated from Spanish to English than your original post, assuming your English is not so great. I'm sure it is better than my Spanish! Big Grin
