Split Decisions (How Splits are Decided)
#1
Coming out of one of three splits in tonight's SimPit BMW M3 GT2 races it was pretty striking the spread of skill levels on the track throughout.
My understanding is that splits are decided on participation from previous races in the series, is that correct?

Is there any other metrics that can be used to adjust who goes where?

Obviously we can't do the best of all things which would be to have a qualifying session with all 61 drivers and split them into three races of 20-21 drivers based on best lap time, otherwise I am guessing that is how it would be done. I'm wondering if possibly championship points from previous races in the series could help determine where people go, if lap times cannot? If it was weighted more toward how well a driver has done in passed races, rather than more weighted towards who's been in the series before or not, it might help put the fast guys with the fast guys, the slow guys with the slow guys, etc..

I think I would much more enjoy racing against more people with a similar skill level as I have... rather than more than half the grid being wildly out of my league (either way too fast, or way too slow).

Of course all of this is really just a fantastic problem to have. I suppose I should be happy there are a few racing series on SRS that have this sort of draw in the first place! Anyway, I figured I'd type out my thoughts on the matter and see if there's any levers to pull to help separate the aliens from the humans when there is more than one split for a race.
