New Assetto Corsa series starting 22/10/2018!

I don't like this, it doesn't make the racing any better and only hurts worse balanced cars (Porsche). Why make us waste time to stop for nothing anyway Sad

I love it actually.
A. it forces you to stop
B. It brings a tactical element to the race.

More like: A. It forces you to do something other than hotlap by yourself for an hour*, B: see A.

*Because 1 hour races last too long for the vast differences in simracing skill levels present at SRS, you see? Big Grin

it started some months ago because anyone basically did the stop just to put some fuel, so the pit strategy was useless

with this it force you to make different decisions, you can use an aggressive strategy like soft- soft or soft- medium or viceversa for undercut / overcut or a stable race with medium medium

for the Porsche thing, if i remember right (i used that car very few times) it heat up tyres very well, so in race it will be better than other cars, because others hardly heat up medium tyres.

Not sure if this is the correct area to post this.....The sim force vs Just Jean Porsche GT3 cup series is missing week 4. Also, race says fixed, but when we got in server last night, it was open set ups.....

No, actually I'm quite serious. Just about every 1 hour race I've done on SRS is hotlaps for the last 5/6th of the time limit. And I attribute this to the fact that not everyone wants to (or has the time to) put in enough practice to be able to maintain the same fast race pace... much less for that many laps in a row. Once the grid spreads out (quickly), the only way you will actually get to do any actual "racing" is if you are fortunate enough to have one or two other drivers (who happen to sign up for the race at the same time as you) that have very similar lap times (not likely given only 23 to a server and an already niche community) to run along side for the whole hour.

And so: hotlaps after the first couple of laps. Except for that exciting part where you have to go into the pits for that 1 liter of fuel and no tire change since that is typically the best/obvious "strategy" from the various posts I've read about these series. But if that is your thing, go nuts! Smile

Certainly was fixed tonight. And boy is that default setup a stinker. Car up and spun on me twice out of seemingly nowhere. And given that I climbed from 20th to 12th by lap four, I was not alone. I'll definitely attempt to spend more than 15 minutes practicing with this setup next week.

1 hour races are a gamble and I generally only do the Simpit ones because I'm part of a group (Not the Simpit group) that practices heavily for them and are in Discord chat while doing it. We also share setups and help each other out with learning lines, braking points, etc so that the time differences aren't that big and we can have some close racing. Becomes kind of a community series.

Yeah the Porsche being fixed was a shocker but it allowed me to beat you (Russell) and Johnny so I'm not complaining Big Grin

Yeah, I quite enjoyed the Simpit races when I first started up, but they went to 100% 1 hour races and I just didn't feel like bothering with it. The community aspect certainly curtails many of my complaints, to be sure. But all of the 1 hour Daily Series are giant "do not join" buttons for me. Which is unfortunate because I'd love to do two races in a row every Monday and Tuesday CST for that time slot.

If that would be your strategy in the daily 1hr series, you're sadly mistaken. Get into the pits for a litre of fuel means you won't make it till the end, as on average you need roughly 150L for the race. On a few tracks there is the possibility of making your tyres last until the end, so a 'splash 'n dash' has potential. But on most tracks, you do need a set of fresh tyres, as tyrewear is standard @ 170%.

I feel that this is the only series where there's more than just driving hotlaps. Every 20 minute series is just that. If driving a number of hotlaps in a row is not to your liking, it doesn't make any sense to me you avoid the 1hr Euro series.

So your argument is that pitstop is the one way to prevent the race from being nothing but hotlaps? That was literally my point on the subject.

As for 20 minute races, I'm not sure how a shorter time limit in cars with typically fixed or very limited setup options that are typically slower than in 1 hour series would result in the same hotlapping-only symptoms I'm complaining about. Yes, the grid still spreads out, but not by nearly as much, being a function of less time on the clock and less setup options. So to summarize: the wider range of lap times + more laps = less time actually trying to pass or defend. And passing and defending is what I'm attracted to.  Driving by myself I can do anytime.  That's not racing... that's commuting. Big Grin (Yes, I'm trying to be funny... while also trying to make a point.)

I can certainly see that if you are successful in the hotlapping series and you really like hotlapping, you would not like to see someone successfully lobbying for less 1 hour races and more 20 minute races, but that's kind of what I'm trying to do. Sorry!
