I'm not an uploader... anyway, do I need to activate the app while in game to download other's skins or does it run silently in the background doing its work when intended?

This is not clear to me and maybe to others so maybe can help asking:
Does it mean that if I have to upload a skin I can do it from an offline practice session (so to have the interface) and then exit the practice session and join SRS server... just to gain those 2 extra minutes for the upload operation?
