Rating Calculation?
#7
Clean and fast does it - of course.

Beating other racers ranked higher than you does it. But it's not the only criteria. I've had races where I came fifth with only 1 higher ranked racer on the grid and my ranking still went up a little. So finishing and beating lots of others also does it, probably in smaller steps.

Racing a lot does it if you finish conistsently in the top third of the field and do so cleanly. Smaller steps than winning but it does move you up.

I am close to getting 800 ranking now (791 at the time of writing this) and the above still holds true, my points still go up even though most racers on server have less rank at any given race.

Getting beat by lesser ranked racers is not the only criteria. You always get that low ranking specialist who comes from nowehere and flies on a particular combo. Even when you get beat by him/her but finish clean and front part of the grid your points continue to go up.

I have to say I was surprised at times lately why I still gain points cos I had a few not so great finished but they hardly caused anty damage. Only getting crashed out and finishing 15th a couple of times saw my ranking suffer noticeably.

It's not pure speed either. I have to admit that most people who rank as highly as I do are faster than me, and there are plenty of lower ranked drivers who are faster then me. I don't think my skillset matches my rank at the moment and I would suffer if I had to race on a grid made up of 700+ pts drivers.

The system is far more forgiving that PC2 system. there you get crashed out once and you need several days just to get back to where you were. It seems to be purely who you beat and who beats you. And when you finish 15th you lose so many points you need to win 15 races to get back. This is not the case with SRS, shich means that it does not srtop you from racing for fear of losing rank over a couple of races. you lose a little but you get it back just by racing at the level that represents your skillset.

What the system also does very well is if you look at number of starts, average incidents and ranking: drivers who've been around for a while, have decent rating and incident average below 2 you can usually trust to race clean and fair. that is probably the most important information and the system gets that right more often than not!

Cheers

Chris
