I've stumbled across another way to extract models to work with Mudbox.
Open content Manager and go to the about page.
Click repeatedly on the version number to activate 'developer mode' (about 10 clicks quickly)
You can now install and use FBX converter
Now when you go to CM showroom you can unpack kn5
This gives you the .fbx file to use in Mudbox or other software.
It's the 3dmodel file not the config file.
And all of the texture files.
This can be use full if there is a texture your looking for to use in 2d painting. ie. dash logos
Hope it helps somebody
