I'm 116 races into my SRS career and I'm just now starting to consistently be in the top 10. There are no shortcuts, just a lot of time and practice and racing. I look at the winner's lap on replay when starting a new week to see how I can improve my line/braking/etc.
You might find the current Toyota GT86 series a little more beginner friendly than the Maserati.
