Helmet skinning issues

Hello all,
I would like to know if anyone knows how to create a chrome effect on a helmet texture... or if it's even possible! So far, I've had no luck with creating helmet_2012_map files, using opacity to regulate how reflective the paint is, just like you would for a car livery texture. That is unless I'm doing something wrong that I'm unaware of... I'll add the said file as an attachment for reference, so y'all can tell me if I'm just plain dumb.

Also, is it possible to paint on a car's windshield to display a number and a name? Or are we limited to painting on the banner at the top of the windshield?

(This is what I mean by painting on the windshield... to add a name and number like in Porsche Cup, for example)
