Assetto Corsa Skin Transfer App V1.1
I had to really look around your post to see what you were asking (which was, "you'll get a success message and the app will ask you to press the new restart button in order to load the skins". I'm in VR where is this "new restart button"? I hear an audio announcement telling me to do so, but not sure what restart means.").

Basically it just means you have to re-enter the server. If you actually show the Skin App, there's a restart button on the app itself. All it does is quit out of the session and (I think) attempt to rejoin the server again. I find it is just as easy to just quit the server and hit the "Try Again" button in Content Manager to rejoin the last server I was just on. It does the same thing.

So, I don't need it? fine like it is manual? cool....your skin is ok.

Next topis is.....Shader and SRS skinapp....seems Shader 74 (latest) and 49(recommended stable) make the walls turn dark, grass flashes in turns, on SRS servers with skin app enabled...go figure....so what, once my skin is uploaded a few times i can just turn it off and on to fix it....sux tho.

ahem, it says skins need to be under 10mb but i have difficulty hitting that if i generate mip maps when saving as .dds. How necessary are the mip maps?

I'm very new to this...

There's a number of ways to keep it under the limit and still have a great looking paint job for racing. I feel like I've typed these up somewhere already. Oh, I had a small blurb about it in my old ass tutorial for making skins in Mudbox. Here's a list of things you can do:
  • Work in whatever size you want, but when it comes time to prep your skin for the final livery, don't have anything over 2048x2048. Most every skin will look fine at that res. Some you can even get by on half that still!
  • For anything not the "main part of the skin" don't have over 512x512. Likely those textures are going to be for details that you won't be able to make out passed a few dozen meters anyway.
  • Try simply deleting certain texture files out of the directory and see if the fall back texture is good enough for your skin. For instance, delete any textures that are for "custom tyres". If the texture doesn't exist in your folder, the one that is the default file will be used instead.
  • Don't save with an alpha channel if you don't actually have transparency in the particular texture you are doing.
That's most of it. Very few skins I make force me to do drastic alterations to keep them under 10MB.

If you have specific questions, or need help with a specific skin you've made, feel free to PM me with a place I can download what you have and I'll see if I can't get you under the bar.

Where can I get the templates to paint my car? for example of the GT3 and Skip Barber.
Thanks!

PD: sorry for my english, I use the google translator xD

For MOST Kunos cars, you can find "adequate" templates here: ...\Steam\steamapps\common\assettocorsa\sdk\dev\skin_templates\

For mod cars like the Skip Barber, every modder is different. For that particular car, he's included templates in the texture folder for the car, which is here: ...\Steam\steamapps\common\assettocorsa\content\cars\skipbarber_f2000\texture\Templates\

And if none of those work, you can see what Google Translate does to the section of my tutorial on skinning entitled "Preparing Your Own Template" found here: http://www.simracingsystem.com/showthread.php?tid=2249

Good luck!

Sadly it seems that a lot of skins for the skippies doesnt download properly. I dont know if its the skippy or the app cause it mostly works fine but not for the skippies.

I haven't had a problem. Are you saying you are having problems downloading other skins, or are you having problems uploading yours? What does the app actually say out loud when you join the server for an SRS race? If it isn't saying anything, then you don't have the app installed correctly.

My skin uploads fine and on the surface everything is ok. It downloads everyones skin and says everything is right but it doesnt download the actual skin.dds file just the livery preview and livery icon but not the actual skin, have had it happen before but not to this extent out of 18 skins that got downloaded only 8 got downloaded properly with the dds files.
