There are also people cutting right across the grass at the chicane to get a better run down the straight in qualifying. And often crashing into people in the process. I tried to save a replay but AC decided not to let me for some reason.

Yeah... there was someone who had a stupidly fast time (2 seconds faster than 2nd place) during one of the qualifying sessions earlier this week who was literally bragging about how he was "cutting as much as he could without getting a cut track warning" to get the time he got. Zero guilt about it.
This ain't Street Fighter, folks... just because the game is shite at enforcing rules, doesn't mean you need to break them whenever possible.
