From chat it sounds like everyone disconnected from the server two separate times during this race, causing all sorts of shenanigans. I was lucky the first disconnect, but the second I spawned right in the middle of someone.
Protip: If you start disconnecting, assume it is the server and just keep racing as normal until you either rejoin automatically, or the server actually says it is no longer responding (in which case you can try to rejoin via server browser or Try Again button... good luck).
