National rankings in perspective - Pierre Caillet - 03-08-2018

Michael Butler's posts got me wondering how the national ranking would look if it took the number of drivers into account. Enlightening stuff (for the eight first countries in the regular ranking) (total rating/number of drivers) :
Germany 15,79
Portugal 39,01
Spain 11,86
UK 18,75
Italy 40,95
USA 24,14
The Netherlands 46,16
France 45,83
I'd say: "'nuff said".
But I'd also like to say: "fuck, there's one county I'm not surprised about..." Smile

So what you're REALLY saying is Netherlands, with same number of drivers, just basically whooped France's butt and took over 1st place....lol.

I put the list in the correct order:
I will include # of drivers for each country and total points.....  08/03/18
I'm not sure how SRS does this calculation and what the number represents. but it tells a great story. Nice Job!

If you will notice, the more drivers a country has the less value per driver it has. In other words, the list is also from least amount of drivers to most. I'm not sure if that is part of the SRS calculation or not, it seems to be a pattern.

Indeed, I noticed that afterwards. I suppose the higher the number of drivers, the higher the number of guys with low commitment and therefore very low scores. There should be a way to screen those away (like a minimum rating per driver?).

Absolutely. I checked three more countries with low numbers of people and they would totally lead the ranking:
  • Austria would have a whooping 120.4 (I don't have a problem with that though, haha)
  • The Czech Republic would be quite good as well with 102.71
  • Finnland too with 80.01

A ranking like that would definitely need a rating limit (150? 200?).

A rating limit would be a solution but what's the limit that shows a minimum of commitment ? Even a rating of 100 would screen very many people away. And it would be too tedious to do it by ourselves.

It could also be participation in the last xx weeks. But then again, how many weeks ? And, again, practically...

I think the rating as it is has value for SRS as it shows "market penetration" (the case of Spain is interesting: why would they have so many more drivers than anybody else !?), but it doesn't really show the drivers' quality/participation. However, we've definitely hit a wall in practical terms unless SRS wants to get into it. Any thoughts on that, Admins ?

Min. 400 ranking, at least 20 starts would weed out a good many......would be more accurate standings....would love to see each country in a fair leaderboard race for points no matter how many drivers, but avg. finishing position for each country as a whole.
