Ok, I just subtitled surviving rookies to portuguese.. Scott gave me the permission.

I could share by tomorrow the Movie Maker project with the text already timed to the speech, if someone else wanted to translate to another lenguage.

Here is the video

Cheers!

That's quite the job you've done! However... doesn't Youtube have a close captioning subtitle setup that allows you to do it on the original video for him? I think it's easier to do than subtitling in most video creation software as well.

yes it does, it was my first aproach.. but the video was locked for contributions.. better this way i guess, since when you enables it anyone could also add comments and other unwanted stuff to the video.

Wow, thanks for the work! With Portuguese being among the most used languages in sim racing it will help a load of people. Shocking you were the first to do is, actually :-)

The original creator should enable subtitles for his video. I’ll comment to his video, maybe it helps.

Emptybox just made a video about that as well.

It’s more specifically about getting out of rookies at iRacing but still has some good general advice for new sim racers:

Was coming to post that as well. Would have been nicer had he actually done some example clips rather than just showing a Mazda race in the background.

...and we know you are the best driver in the whole universe but, please... PLEASE... do not overtake in the middle of Eau Rouge Tongue

Hi racers,
maybe this is the correct post, to ask my question:

I participate in the Dallara Cup.

In the last days, I drove two races in Mugello.
First time I qualified on P6. Second time, due to some technical issues with my PC on P10.

Two times I was kicked in the back in the first corner.
Two times I was the last driver on track after the incident.

In the last race, I managed to get 9th place at the end of the race with 1 incident (the one in corner one) and I had plenty of fun during the 20 minutes.
But the incidents are still annoying.

In both situations, I was on the far outside of the corner, and there was plenty of room for anyone around me.

So, the question is:
Do you have any advice, how to survive the first corner.

Should I try to stay more in the middle, or on the inner side?
Or is it just bad luck and it depends on the situation.

Don´t get me wrong. I do mistakes, too.
But the described situations seem to be avoidable.

So I hope for any advice...

Thanks in advance
pitman

If I have your situation pictured correctly in my head, you went all the way on the outside to avoid everyone, yet folks still slammed into you? Yeah, it happens. Not everyone uses apps like Helicorsa or Car Radar to maintain situational awareness, and as this video and original post touches on, the idea of lifting/slowing down is completely alien to most beginners. Especially right after they are all jacked up from the race start. And being on the inside in situations where the people behind you are not going into a crowded corner cautiously could be a deathtrap. I prefer outside myself.

My advice is to just remain calm and keep being extra cautious going into turns on the first lap. For some turn 1s (like Spa) it might actually be useful to go REEEEEALLY wide (like way off the track) to avoid potential clusterfucks if you think they are going to happen. Just be really careful rejoining safely, especially if those behind you are going to be going at a much faster pace than you. And of course, install and use Helicorsa or Car Radar. Everything helps!

Thanks for your fast reply.
HeliCorsa or CarRadar (thanks for the hint) are a huge help.
Crew Chief is another one, which I use every race.

But it seems, that most racers did not use such apps.

May it be possible that SRS define in their rules that you have to use these apps.
And that they check if they are installed and activated by there own AC-App?
(The better drivers with higher ratings can be ignored by this rule.)
Think this can improve the overall experience with SRS and AC.
