Question about Blue Flag Scenario - Russell Sobie - 12-01-2017

Hypothetically, if I were on lap 8, and someone else on the track was faster than me, but for some reason or another found them selves behind me only on their 7th lap (i.e. he's being shown a Blue Flag for me), what is supposed to go on here? Is he just stuck having to yield ground to me since I'm trying to catch someone ahead of me also on lap 8, or should he start trying to pass me? Should I just yield to the faster driver even though he's down a lap?

He won't be shown a blue flag as he is behind you.

He is well within his rights to overtake you but he really should make sure not to take you out.

If it was me I would let him past.  Its no skin off my nose as he is nowhere near taking a position from me and it means less chance of him taking me off while trying to pass.  Who knows he might take out the person I am trying to catch Wink

The moment he gets passed me, would he not be shown a blue flag by the game then?

RE: Question about Blue Flag Scenario - Tim Cullingworth - 12-02-2017

Yes he would, but the blue flag does not mean let the driver behind through, it means don't fight, defend from or in anyway hold up, the driver behind.

As I said, due to the way that this is an open race system I would let them through as I don't always trust the drivers behind me not to try and push through, even though they shouldn't. It's just safer.

Yeah that is going to be my course of action in the future for sure. If, I mean, this ever happens in a race. Hypothetically. Smile

RE: Question about Blue Flag Scenario - Clarke Robinson - 12-05-2017

In this hypothetical race situation specifically on hypothetical lap 8, if the faster car behind overtook fairly and then subsequently the overtook car loses control by themselves, should the faster car be punished?

RE: Question about Blue Flag Scenario - Simon Meisinger - 12-05-2017

As far as I'm concerned there are no rules about re-lapping, at least in road racing.

If the two involved drivers are somewhat reasonable, it would go like that, in my opinion:

Racer A (the guy in lap 8) would realize that there is a faster car approaching him which is a lap down. He would see that there is no point in putting up a fight and let the other car pass as soon as there is a chance without losing too much time.

Racer B (the guy in lap 7) would realize that even though he’s faster, there is no point in pressuring the other guy who might still be racing for good positions and therefore would keep his distance until the other driver lets him pass.
